Beverley 3rd XI lost to South Holderness 1st XI by 6 wickets
3rd XI 209 for 6
South Holderness 210 for 4
Beverley Town 3rd Xl got their league campaign off to a bad start, with defeat against South Holderness on Saturday at Norwood Park.
Having won the toss Beverley batted first but lost an early wicket. The experienced Neil Goforth and Richard Moon steadied the ship with a fine partnership of 128 until Goforth was out for 64.
Moon soon followed for 52 and Beverley struggled to get the momentum required to set a really challenging total and finished on 209 for 6. James Broekhuizen, with a spirited 24 not out, also did well.
The South Holderness reply was helped by some rusty bowling, with far too many wides and no balls being delivered by the Beverley attack.
An experienced Holderness side always looked in control as they knocked off the total with six wickets in hand.
Guy Brumfield was the pick of the home attack, taking 2 for 31 from his 12 overs.
